Platitude Without Attitude

What a “nice” speech!
Did you catch it? If you missed it here is the video.
Rod Dreher gives the speech two thumbs up. Rod says that the speech was, “probably the best that can be expected of a presidential candidate seeking to lead a pluralist democracy.” Rod may be right.
Still, I cannot help thinking that this was a bunch of evangelically oriented platitudes picked up at a home-schooling convention. And another thing, must every “God-loving” candidate left and right invoke the name of the new America’s patron saint- the Rev “Dr.” Martin Luther King?

As someone who merely browses this discussion from time to time, I was surprised and disturbed to see the above link (about Martin Luther King) to a website sponsored by Stormfront, the white supremacist and neo-Nazi network.

I hope it will be removed to avoid associating the name of Christ with such anti-Christian ideology.

Indeed, an eloquent speech with much to agree with.
Yet, I still would not vote for a mormon pagan regardless of his flowery speech, or Pat Buchanan’s accolades.

Andrew1- thanks for the comment. I did not look very closely at the link before I posted it. I have replaced it with a link to a Wickopedia article on point. Readers can pick up Theodore Pappas’ book Plagiarism and the Culture War: The Writings of Martin Luther King and other Prominant Americans.
The point is not really the relative merits or demerits of MLK. Of course, he was a great American- but when did he become a hero to either theological or cultural conservatives?
