Rod Dreher has a great post about Huckabee’s reasons for supporting Constitutional Amendments defending the unborn and prohibiting homosexual marriage. Critics, myself included, have noted the ease in which politicians declares their support for Amendments and the difficulty of passing one. Huckabee responded to the criticism declaring

“But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that’s what we need to do, is to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards.”

True enough. Combine this with the Covenanter’s Christian Constitutional Amendment and we have our man.

Still, the question of federalism does raise its head for conservatives, no? But if “conservatives” can defend the 1960’s legacy of federally imposed “civil rights” why can I not defend a federally imposed standard of not killing babies? Tit for tat? Still chewing.
