Rebuilding Camelot?
I am in Albany for Conservative Party’s Political Action Conference (CPPAC). Hope is last to die but folks know that 2008 looks dismal. It is interesting how many are sure that Hillary Clinton is THE Democrat candidate. I am hearing from thoughtful folks “in the know” that the Clintons set up Obama’s South Carolina victory to paint him as the “black candidate.” I wonder if the strategy will backfire.
After watching Obama’s Saturday evening victory speech I cannot believe the Obama can be painted as the Jesse Jackson candidate of 2008.
Rather, he sounds like the John F. Kennedy candidate of 2008. First sweet Caroline and now Uncle Ted have agreed. Lord help the Republicans if they have to face Camelot rebuilt. The Clinton’s are attacking but I think the ruins are being restored.
If so, Conservatives may be a long time in the wilderness.

Bill, great analogy. I don’t understand why the Democrats are divided between Hillary and Obama. On the major issues, their positions are almost the same. If he’s the nominee, though, Obama will sail to victory in November. With Clinton, on the other hand, it’s more like a 50/50 chance of victory.

Mr. Brown has it backwards. Obama will make the general election race competitive, while Hillary should breeze by the pro-war Republican.
As Pat Buchanan puts it, Obama cannot win by being made out to be the “black candidate.” Any sensible Republican (who wants to win for winning’s sake–and they all do) will do this subtly, just as the Clintons are doing now.
